Artist’s Statement
In the video, I reflect on my parents’ immigration experiences for a chance at true happiness. Here, I perform the tradition of bojagi-wrapping by wrapping my parents’ dreams and perceptions of America with my mothers’ scarves. As these fragments are stored away, their desires become material, alive. Throughout this video, my father’s handwritten text scrolls by, stating: “다시 시작하는 마음으로 용감게” (roughly translating to “bravely with the heart to start over”). This video is an expression of gratitude and dedication to my parents who, like many others, crossed oceans to pursue a brighter future with relentless hope and bravery.
